As a business owner or solopreneur, you may find yourself wondering if it’s time to hire a web designer for your website.
Is it too early?
Is it a waste of money?
Who would I even hire?
Is my DIY website good enough?
It can be a tough decision to make. Especially if you’re trying to save money, or you’ve been handling your website on your own. However, there are several signs that tell you it’s time to bring in a professional web designer.
Here are some key indicators that you’re ready to hire a web designer:
If your website isn’t achieving the goals you set out for it, such as generating leads, increasing sales, or improving brand awareness, then it’s time to bring in a web designer. A professional designer can help identify the issues with your site and make the necessary changes to improve your results.
You’d be flabbergasted at the stuff a pro designer can find that you never even thought about!
Like “Oh, no wonder no one has been booking with me. I forgot to add a “Book Now” button anywhere on my website! 😭” (Sound obvious? No one could possible forget something that blatant, right? But OOOOOOOH you’d be surprised what I’ve found on some DIY websites out there. And honestly, it’s not their fault! Website building isn’t everyone’s forte. And that’s totally okay!)
If your website hasn’t been updated in a long time, it may look outdated and downright unprofessional after a while. This can negatively impact your brand and turn potential customers away. I mean, do I really trust the quality of a business if they don’t care enough to update their website past 1999??
A professional web designer, however, can help modernize your site and make it more visually appealing to your target audience. And a GOOD web designer adds all that pizzazz with a powerful punch of strategy behind it. That means every pixel is curated thoughtfully with your specific dream client in mind.
Managing a website can be a full-time job in itself. If you don’t have the time or expertise to manage your website effectively, then honestly, you might be on the wrong website platform altogether. So, YES that means I’m about to spill some tea and name names ☕️☕️☕️ (AHEM *wordpress* COUGH)
How do I know this? Because I’ve used just about every website builder under the sun. (Yes, even WordPress) And I don’t mean I just poked around on these website builders for a few minutes and moved on. I mean I’ve spent MONTHS to YEARS on many of the most popular website builders. That includes even hosting my own website on these platforms as well. (Lol I wasn’t kidding. I mean I REEAALLLLYYY put in the work to try these builders out.)
That’s how I know from experience that if you’re 1.) Not the most technically savvy, or 2.) Short on time, or 3.) Don’t have someone on staff you can delegate website-related tasks to, I highly recommend you stay away from WordPress. I’ve just seen waaaay too many things go wrong for clients who simply don’t have the time or skill to handle all the curveballs WordPress can hurl your way.
But I’ve also seen good things in other website platforms. In fact, after trying out so many platforms, I can confidently say that if I just described you in the paragraph above, ShowIt is probably the best website platform for you. It’s simple, without taking away your creative freedom. And it’s really intuitive for non-designers to use. And I’m all for promoting independence. 💪
YES girl. Edit your website without having to hire a 3rd party vendor to do it for you! Switch those pics around without your whole entire website crashing. You’ve got more pressing matters worry about without adding a complicated website builder to the list.
If your website isn’t showing up on the first page of Google search results, then it’s likely that your website isn’t optimized for search engines. A web designer can help optimize your site for search engines, improving your rankings and making it easier for potential customers to find you.
I mean what do you do when you want to find something new? You Google it. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could just pop up in your dream client’s Google searches without you having to shove your website in their face? Aaah, that would be the life.
Well, it’s a good thing any good professional web designer is always thinking about what makes your website Google search-friendly.
Let’s say your business is growing. (Woo!) And your old website just isn’t cutting it anymore. You need it do more, but it just can’t handle the new horizons you have planned for your future business growth. You might have to add some brand new functionalities to your website.
If this is you and you want to add new features to your website like an online store or a blog, then it might be time to bring in a web designer. A professional designer can help you add new features to your site and make that they are integrated seamlessly with the rest of your site.
The last thing you’d want is to make a mess of all the code that could be involved with adding new features to your website. A web designer take all that off your plate and even recommend the best way for you to implement your new features into your business processes.
If you’re experiencing any of the above signs, then don’t feel down. This doesn’t mean your current website failed. It just means you’re ready for an epic metamorphosis! A website transformation might be just what you need to refresh your brand. If you’re up for that kind of amazing adventure, then go ahead and hire a web designer.
